Golden Eagle Western Equestrian Treks to Wisconsin-River Falls to End Fall Slate

CROOKSTON, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Crookston western equestrian team will continue their 2013-14 schedule with a pair of road shows at University of Wisconsin-River Falls Sat., Nov. 16 and Sun., Nov. 16. The Golden Eagles are ready to get back into the show pen after a very successful pair of shows in which they won High Point Team one of the days and Mitzi Marlin (Sr., Nowthen, Minn.) won High Point Rider the other day.

"All the riders really found their edge during our last competition and I know every one of them is ready to take their confidence and riding ability to the next level," said assistant coach Kayla Krueger.

This is a crucial weekend for the Golden Eagles as many ridgers are close to pointing out of their divisions. Marlin hopes to continue her winning streak as she is withing a few points of leading the region in her Open division and qualifying for the AQHA Cup. The AQHA Cup is a title that is held for the open rider that has accumulated the most points in both the Reining and Open Horsemanship division within their region. That individual automatically advances to the IHSA Nationals that are held in the spring.

Sophomores Amanda Guimont (Nowthen, Minn.) and Chloe Nelson (Little Falls, Minn.) are both within a few points of moving up into the Advanced horsemanship class. Senior Jenna Podnar (Luxemburg, Wis.) and Junior Shannon Salm (Larsen, Wis.) are also within range of pointing out of their divisions as they look forward to this weekend.

"Overall, finishing out our Fall season on a strong note would be a fanstastic finish and I am very excited to see what the future has in store for us," Krueger said.
