CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's tennis team will have three matches this weekend at Choice Health & Fitness in Grand Forks, N.D. The Golden Eagles will take on Minnesota State University, Moorhead Fri., April 12 at 6:30 p.m. Then Sat., April 13 UMC will battle Bemidji State University at 2 p.m. The final match of the weekend and of the regular-season will commence at 8 a.m. Sun., April 14 versus Southwest Minnesota State University.
The Golden Eagles enter the weekend with a 1-11 (0-9 NSIC) mark and are coming off a pair of losses last weekend. UMC battled against University of Sioux Falls but fell 5-4 and then lost 8-1 versus St. Cloud State University April 6. UMC's one win on the season came versus Western New England University March 20 in Orlando, Fla.
In doubles, Minnesota Crookston has been guided this season by the No. 2 duo of
Amanda Pihlaja (Sr., Duluth, Minn.) and
Holly Roepke (Sr., Osage, Minn.), who will both play their final regular-season matches as Golden Eagles this weekend. The pair is 4-8 this season at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, freshman
Catherine Brown (Powell Butte, Ore.) has led the Golden Eagles with a 5-7 mark at No. 2 singles while both Pihlaja and
Katelyn Johnson (Jr., Monticello, Minn.) have four singles victories this season.
MSU Moorhead comes in with a 2-10 overall record on the 2013 season. The Dragons wins have come over Bemidji State University and University of Minnesota Duluth. In doubles, MSU Moorhead is led by the duo of Cassie Smith and Morgan Smith, who are 4-0 at No. 3 this season. In singles, the Dragons look to Jenna Galstad at the No. 1 slot, who is 2-8 on the year.
Bemidji State is in their first season under head coach Mark Fodness. The Beavers are 1-11 on the season with their lone victory coming against Martin Luther College April 6. Bemidji State has been led this year at No. 1 singles by Caley Westin, who is 3-9 on the year. In double, the Beavers have struggled overall as they only have two doubles wins this year. The No. 2 duo of Westin and Meg Hafdahl is 1-9 on the season.
Southwest Minnesota State is 2-12 on the season. The Mustangs have been led in 2013 by Crystal Overbaugh, who is 5-8 at the No. 3 singles slot this season. In doubles, the No. 2 duoe of Katie Kienitz and Overbaugh enters the weekend with a 2-6 overall mark.
