CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston women's basketball team announced the addition of Maria Delgado (G, 5-7, London, England/Miles Community College (Mont.) to their 2017-18 signing class.
Delgado is the fourth signee for the Golden Eagles joining Kasey Harper (G, 5-4, Mesa, Ariz./Desert Ridge H.S.), Ashley Freund (F, 5-11, Jordan, Minn./Jordan H.S.) and Abby Guidinger (G, 5-10, Waukesha, Wis./Kettle Moraine H.S.).
"We are very excited about the addition of Maria to our women's basketball team," said Head Coach
Mike Roysland. "Maria is someone who can really stretch the court with her outside shot. She also is someone who possesses strong court vision and a great ability to find her teammates. We are excited to have her as a Golden Eagle."
Minnesota Crookston is coming off their third-consecutive berth in the NSIC/Sanford Health quarterfinals during the 2016-17 season. The Golden Eagles will look to build off their third trip to the Sanford Pentagon as they return eight players off of last season's roster. Minnesota Crookston will look to seniors
Micaela Noga (G, 5-7, Parkers Prairie, Minn.) and
Emily Gruber (F, 5-11, Monticello, Minn.) along with redshirt junior
Isieoma Odor (F/C, 6-0, Bloomington, Minn.). The trio has the experience of being part of all three NSIC/Sanford Health quarterfinal appearances along with two NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament home playoff games.
Delgado is the first junior college signee in the class and the first signee from outside of the United States in this class. She joins two regional signees with Freund from Minnesota and Guidinger from Wisconsin, along with Arizona-native Harper. She will give the Golden Eagles help at guard and on the wing.
Maria Delgado (G, 5-7, London, England/Miles Community College (Mont.)
Delgado played at Miles Community College, a Division I junior college in Miles City, Mont. She appeared in 27 games, while averaging 13.1 minutes per game as a sophomore. Delgado averaged 3.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. As a freshman, Delgado appeared in 12.1 minutes per game, while averaging 2.5 points per game. She had 20 points on 7-of-10 from the field and 5-of-7 from beyond the arc against United Tribes Technical College. Delgado had eight points and three assists versus Little Big Horn Community College. She was named an Academic All-American. Prior to arriving at Miles Community College, she attended Barking Abbey Academy in Barking, England.
Delgado is the daughter of Natalia and Daniel Monteiro. She is undecided on major. Delgado was born Oct. 2, 1996. She was also an honor student.
All signees are contingent upon admission to the U of M Crookston and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center. Everyone released today has signed their National Letter of Intent prior to release of information.
