Graff Wins Kevin Garnett Autographed Jersey

UMC student Randy Graff was the lucky winner of the framed, autographed Kevin Garnett jersey that was raffled off by the UMC Teambackers on December 14th. The names were drawn during half-time of the UMC vs. UND women's basketball game.

Three other prizes were given away as well. They were, a $100 Gift Certificate to Subway of Crookston, UMC season basketball tickets and UMC Teambacker apparel.

Teambackers Present $20,000 Check to UMC Athletics

At half-time of the Golden Eagle Men's Basketball game Teambacker President Tom Helgeson presented Bill Tyrrell, Director of Athletic Fundraising and Stephanie Helgeson, Director of Athletics a check on behalf of the Teambackers for $20,000 to help support athletic scholarships at UMC.

Autographed Kevin Garnett Jersey to be Raffled Off at UMC

The University of Minnesota, Crookston Teambacker's will be raffling off an autographed, full-size, framed, Kevin Garnett jersey during the Golden Eagle Women's Basketball game against the University of North Dakota on December 14th. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Lysaker Gymnasium on the UMC Campus.

Tickets are available for $10 at every home Golden Eagle athletic event. Tickets can also be purchased from Teambacker members and from Bill Tyrrell, Director of Athletic Fundraising. He can be reached at 218-281-8436 or by email at btyrrell@UMCrookston.edu.

Only 250 tickets are available so be sure to purchase your tickets early for your chance to win this outstanding prize!

UMC Teambackers to Host First Coaches Luncheon of Season

The UMC Teambackers will be holding a coaches luncheon on Friday, September 23rd in Bede Ballroon on the UMC Campus. Lunch will be served and the fall coaches will give updates of their seasons to date as well as outlooks on their upcoming games. The luncheon begins at noon and runs approximately one hour, lunch will be available for $6.75. Everyone is invited to attend the event.

Bill Tyrrell, Director of Athletic Fundraising will be the host of Friday's lunch. The next Teambacker's Luncheon will be held on October 14th at the Eagles Club.

A Familiar Face Takes on a New Challenge at UMC

Bill Tyrrell, head athletic trainer at the University of Minnesota, Crookston for the past 19 years has accepted a new position as Director of Athletic Fundraising for the Golden Eagles.

"I consider this a great opportunity to assist the athletic department in reaching its goals in becoming competitive year-in and year-out in Division II athletics," says Tyrrell. "I will miss the day-to-day activities with the student athletes, but I look forward to working with the UMC Athletic Administration and coaches in the future." "It has been a great 19 years and I look forward to many more here at UMC in my new capacity as the Director of Athletic Fundraising." Tyrrell adds.

In his 19 years, Tyrrell has been a mentor and role-model to thousands of student athletes. His quick-wit and outgoing personality has helped him build friendships that span far beyond the UMC campus.

"We are happy to have Bill on board as the new athletic fundraiser. He has been a part of UMC athletics for the past 19 years and is well-known in the community and also has a great relationship with many of our alumni," says Athletic Director Stephanie Helgeson. "Nobody bleeds maroon and gold like Bill, his loyalty and commitment to UMC and the athletic program are above question. He has volunteered at many of the Teambacker activities in the past including the annual fund drive. I look forward to working with him to improve our events and to make our athletic program even more successful."

UMC Women's Golf Scramble Hosts Record Turnout

The University of Minnesota, Crookston Athletic Department held its Fifth Annual Women's Golf Classic at Minakwa Golf Club in Crookston, MN on Tuesday, August 9th.

"We had one of our best turnouts ever, 17 teams and 67 total golfers," says UMC Athletic Director Stephanie Helgeson. "The scramble raised approximately $1,500 for the UMC Women's Athletic Scholarship Fund."

Golfers enjoyed Hors d'oeuvres and prizes were awarded following the golf scramble.
All proceeds went towards the UMC Women's Athletic Scholarship Fund.

Hole sponsors included: Chuck Larson, Marv Bachmeier, Schulz Carpeting, Ampride, Natural Look Salon, AmericInn Motel & Suites, Ness Café (Erskine, MN), Northland Inn, Minakwa Grille, BettyAnn Johnson, Proulx Refrigeration, Heating & Appliance, Kari Odland and American Federal.

Prizes were donated by: Videos on Broadway, Salon Elite, Happy Joe's, Munn's Jewelry, UMC, Widman's Candy, RBJ's, Pizza Hut, GLS, Gerrell's Sports Center, North Country, Studio 108, Hardware Hank, The Hair Gallery, Riverview Healthcare, Dawn Skjei, Limited Additions, Nicholas Collections, Mary Kay-Joyce Beattie, UMC Bookstore and Lia Sophia Jewelry-Judy Brekken.

UMC Women's Golf Committee Members included: Steph Helgeson, Brandy Chaffee, Rose Ulseth, Karen Murphy, Nancie Hoerner, Krista Proulx, Tricia Sanders, Marv Bachmeier and Jason Tangquist.

UMC Teambackers 14th Annual Golf Classic: A Drive to the Finish

The University of Minnesota, Crookston Teambackers organization hosted its 15th Annual UMC Teambacker Golf Classic at Minakwa Golf Course Saturday, July 16, 2005.

The winners of the UMC Teambacker Golf Classic were in a tight race to the finish with the first place team taking the tournament with a score of -15 and four teams followed their lead with a tie score of -14. Tie breakers were decided by comparing each team's score on the toughest holes on the course: holes two, eight and six, respectively. The winning teams include:

Tournament coordinator, former UMC Athletic Director Marv Bachmeier commented, "It turned out to be a great day with great competition as five teams shot -14 or better. We had approximately 80 golfers and raised about $5,000 for UMC Athletic Scholarships. We would like to thank all the participants and sponsors and we look forward to the 16th annual tournament next year."

Mark Olsonawski Scholarship Golf Tournament Slated for July 14th

The UMC Teambackers Club has announced July 14th as the scheduled date for the annual Mark Olsonawski Scholarship Golf Tournament at the Two River Golf Club in Hallock, MN.

Registration begins at 10 a.m. on July 14th with a shotgun start beginning at 11 a.m. The scramble is 18 holes and will be limited to the first 80 golfers. A social and awards presentation will follow at 5 p.m. with a cash bar and Two River Grill specials available.

Everyone is invited to participate in the four-person Texas Scramble. Individuals without a team can be assigned a team after arrival to the course.

Registrations can also be made by calling the Two River Golf Club at 218-843-2155 . A limited number of carts are available for the scramble. Call the Two River Golf Club to reserve a cart.

The scholarship fund was named after Olsonawski for his contribution to athletics while a student athlete at UMC. Last year's tournament added over $1,000 to the scholarship fund.

Teambacker Fun Nite Tonight!!!

When: Friday, April 29th, Social - 6 p.m., Dinner - 6:30 p.m.

The UMC Teambackers are hosting their annual Fun Nite at the Eagles Club in Crookston. A social and dinner are on tap for tonight along with numerous silent and live auction items, from an autographed Twins Jersey to a Terry Redlin Print. The social begins at 6:00 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Come out and enjoy numerous raffles, games, dinner and dance to Tommy Helgeson following the games. Everyone is invited to attend and tickets are available at the door.

UMC Teambacker Post-Game Social This Friday

The UMC Teambackers will sponsor a post-game social this Friday, January 14th at Minakwa Country Club. The social begins following the Golden Eagle men's basketball game against Northern State University.

Free chili will be provided and a cash bar will be available. Everyone is invited to attend.

On Friday, January 14th, the Golden Eagle men's and women's basketball teams host Northern State University at Lysaker Gymnasium. The women's game starts at 6:00 p.m. and the men's game follows immediately after at 8:00 p.m.

The men's and women's basketball teams return to the court on Saturday, January 15th, hosting MSU-Moorhead. Game times are 6:00 p.m. for the women and 8:00 p.m. for the men.
